Wood Burning

Working with natural materials like wood is a personal favourite of mine. Wood burning is one of the oldest traditions of my people. I harness the power of modern technology to bring this art form to life in new and exciting ways.

Wood Carving

When carving wood I feel it is a collaborative process. The wood is telling me what it wants to be and sculpting allows me to reveal this story hidden within. It is one of the most pure conversations between spirit, helping me shape the story I am trying to tell.

Etching

Glass etching has evolved so much in modern times with the many uses for glass in modern construction. Playing with light and shadow to create shapes through depths that feel 3-dimensional and move as the light changes throughout the day inspires a new and dynamic approach to design that excites me creatively.

Canvas

Each brushstroke becomes a chapter in the story of place and connection, a harmonious ode to our ancestral heritage.

Lifestyle

Designing lifestyle products, working with fabrics and embroidery to see my artwork come to life in fluid motion as they are worn by people is a joy for me. The happiness this brings combined with the honour I feel when people identify their personal style with my art is something I find very special and personal.

Product

Being brought into the design team for a new product is an exciting avenue of expression for me. Collaborating with other designers and seeing our shared vision shape the product's form, balanced with its need for function is a rewarding challenge and something different from the other work I do.

Personal Philosophy

Get to know me

Capturing the essence of country is everything, vividly etched in my memories as young Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Wemba Wemba man. Its intricate tapestry unfolds as the seasons dance on the precipice of change, leaving an indelible mark on the land while its essence remains constant.

Through my artistic lens, I paint the world as seen with an Aboriginal perspective, envisaging the spirits living in harmony with the people and animals. Seamlessly melding traditional and contemporary art forms, I provide a visual voice to acknowledge where we came from and moving towards a bright future.

Country possesses a certain magic, an elusive quality that is capable of transforming landscapes in mere seconds. I capture the sense of place in my work – and endeavour to convey this essence, where the mystical allure of country unfolds before eyes.

My design process

In the hearth of each submission lies an envisioned artwork that weaves a profound narrative – a testament to the unbreakable connection of country. My art is a celebration of identity, spirituality and age-old ceremonies, resonating through time with people being at the centre.

I draw upon the elements of the natural landscape, embodying the spirit of connection to the spiritual and physical world and our connection to all things we hold sacred – our connection to family and community and the role we play in harmony and balance with women.

Each masterpiece encapsulates ceremonial spaces, etched in time and tradition, where our peoples’ have gathered since the dawn of existence. Each brushstroke, a harmonious ode to the land and a tribute to our ancestral heritage.
